The HPU Co-ed Cheer Team won its fourth straight national title. The HPU Small Co-ed Cheer Team (consisting of no more than four males) won its second national title in a row after debuting last year at the NCA tournament.

Also winning national titles were the HPU All-Girl Stunt Group, for the second consecutive year; and the HPU Dance Team. In 2004, the HPU Dance Team placed first, making it the first time in history that a Hawai‘i dance team captured a national collegiate title at the NCA event.

The All-Girl Cheerleading Team, the only all-girl college cheer team in Hawai‘i, placed third at this year’s competition.

Also receiving first place honors after competing for the first time in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) College Cheerleading Championships in January 2006, the HPU Stunt Team was named national champions at this particular competition.

The Chick-fil-A Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship is the largest event of its kind in the world. With teams from across the United States, Mexico, Japan, and Canada, it is the most widely viewed college cheer and dance event in the history of collegiate spirit competitions.

Head Coach Matthew Parkey joined HPU’s cheer program in July 2004, the same year he was featured on the cover of Cheerleader & Danz magazine. He is a nine-time national championship cheerleader who is experienced in gymnastics, cheerleading, and choreography.
