Schatz is running on the issues: He endorses Rep. John Murtha’s (D-Pa) plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq and hand over power to the Iraqi military. Schatz rejects Pres. Bush’s unilateral and preemptive foreign policy and suppprts a multilateral United States foreign policy.

Education, Schatzbelieves, should be affordable. He would reduce interest rates for student loans and restore the $12 million recent cut from federal Pell Grants.

His third priority is the environment, and he would seek federal funding to help “Preserve what makes Hawai‘i Hawai‘i.”

Ron Menor has 22 years experience in the State Legislature as both a senator and a representative for the Mililani-Waipio Gentry district.

Menor was born in Hilo, attended ‘Iolani School, and graduated with a B.A. from UCLA and a JD from Georgetown University Law School.

He feels that his 22 years of experience sets him apart from the other candidates. He prides himself on legislation he’s written such as the gas cap bill and the Hawai‘i Rx Plus Prescription Drug reform law.

Menor said in the Honolulu Advertiser that voters “can rest assured I will continue to stand up on behalf of consumers against big oil and large pharmaceutical companies.”
