HPU - 40th campaign wins PRSA Koa Anvil

McDunn coordinated the creation of the campaign and wrote much of its materials. She was joined at the event by her coworkers: Robert Kenny, who created the graphics; Kay Kasamoto, who coordinated the advertising; Lianne Yamamura, director of Development and publisher of HPU Today; and Dr. Larry LeDoux, faculty editor of Kalamalama.

TIM SO walks for charity

In May, while most people were sleeping, 9,000 people, including 11 members of HPU’s Travel Industry Management Student Organization, sacrificed their rest for a greater good by participating in the 28th Annual Visitor Charity Walk, sponsored by the Hawai‘i Hotel Industry Association. Faculty advisor for the event was TIM Associate Professor, Dr. Joseph Patoskie.

The walk stretched for seven miles and incorporated 16 stations with refreshments, ranging from sushi in Kapiolani Park to cookies and water at the Ala Wai Promenade.

TIM program director Wendy Lam supplied the group with the attention-getting “bite me” t-shirts.
The next walk is already planned for 2007.

Clean up at Waikiki Beach

Members of HPU’s Travel Industry Management Student Organization (TIMSO) and HPU’s Danish club, Danish Dynamite, came together along with other community groups to participate in the June 10, 2006, Waikiki Beach clean up.

The groups worked with the Waikiki ‘Ohana Workforce of the Waikiki Improvement Association and the Japan-America Society to pick up trash and discarded items along the coastline from the Hilton Hawaiian Village to the Honolulu Zoo.

By working together, the beach clean up was finished in just two hours!

Both TIMSO and the Danish Dynamite offered their assistance to the Waikiki Improvement Association.
