Wind farm reduces Maui oil use by 8 percent
When the Keheawa Wind Plant on Maui started producing electricity
in June, it started the island’s energy industry on
track to reach the 20-20 renewable energy goal set by the
Lingle administration’s Energy for Tomorrow policy.
The plan requires that electricity providers produce 20 percent
of their power from renewable energy by the year 2020. [More]

Lingle
establishes 20-20 energy plan for Hawai‘i
Hawai‘i Governor Linda Lingle signed a
series of energy bills this summer as part of the administration’s
Energy for Tomorrow policy. The policy intends to cut back
and eventually end the state’s dependency on imported
oil. This policy sets the goal of a 20 percent reduction in
fossil fuel use by public utility companies by the year 2020.
Over the next 15 years, HECO, on O‘ahu; MECO, on Maui;
and HELCO on the Big Island are expected to develop technologies
to produce at least 20 percent of their energy from renewable

Electric cars: a second coming,
safer energy encouraged
As the price of a gallon of fuel increases, the connection
between global warming and CO² emissions from fossil
fuels becomes clearer, several car companies are developing
new versions of electric cars to encourage people to use
safer forms of energy. Some of the electric cars are scheduled
to be delivered by 2007 with better charge mileage and
higher speeds than previous electric automobiles. [More]

Feeding our wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a
battle that goes on inside people. “My son,” he
said, “the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside
us all.
“
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority,
lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
“
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth,
compassion, and faith.”
The grandson asked: “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee replied, simply, “The one you feed.”
