of Cuba in the heart of Honolulu

Academy presents shapes of things
to come
Won Ju Lim: In Many Things to Come opened in
the Clare Boothe Luce Gallery at the Honolulu Academy of
Arts Oct. 5 and runs through Nov. 26. This presentation is
the third in a series of exhibition of works by internationally
known contemporary artists that was initiated by the academy

Community group helps
youth at risk
“Dreams are not something to wait for,
they are something to work for,” is written on a poster
in a classroom on Castle High School, and some of the students
there fight hard to attain their dreams. Kalamalama visited
a Work Place Readiness class at Castle High School in which
the students were engaged in a project with Breakthroughs for
Youth at Risk, a worldwide non-profit organization that helps
teens to face their obstacles, change their attitudes, and

Government: stay out of gas pricing
Now that gasoline prices are below $3 a gallon,
calls for the government to “do something” to
force prices lower have temporarily abated. But it is crucial
for us to recognize that no matter what the price of gasoline
is, such calls are wrong. All market fluctuations in the
price of gasoline, up or down, are a good thing—and
none of the government’s business. [More]
