Dr. Steilen brings to HPU a proven ability to
enhance academic programs and strengthen relations with the business
community. In just a few years in Hawai‘i, he has cultivated
a growing network of contacts and assembled a group of faculty
interested in fostering closer ties between the companies downtown,
our faculty, and our students.
Steilen first came to HPU as Executive-in-Residence in the College
of Business. Before that, he taught for many years at The Chinese
University of Hong Kong, where he also served as an administrator
and played a major role in leading the development and expansion
of MBA programs. He was executive director of that university’s
Asia-Pacific Institute of Business and has also held visiting
professorships at Concordia University in Montreal, Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, and the University of Victoria
in British Columbia.
Steilen’s publications have appeared in the Far Eastern
Economic Review, Asian Business, Singapore Business, Hong Kong
Manager, Media, and the Hong Kong Economic Journal. He published
a regular column in the South China Morning Post and, last year,
wrote a series of articles for Pacific Business News. In addition
to his academic work, he has had extensive consulting experience
and has conducted numerous management development programs throughout
Asia.
Between now and July 1, Dr. Steilen will work closely with Interim
Dean John Kearns on developing a number of initiatives, including
a variety of ways students can be part of the life of the College
of Business both during and after their time at HPU.
Please join me in welcoming him to his new position. |
