With his article on the Patriot Act, Burr offers the following caveat: “I need to say, in the interest of full disclosure, that I make no pretense toward academic objectivity regarding this subject. I have very strong opinions about the PATRIOT Act, and they’re nearly all negative.

“ You also have the right to know where I’m coming from politically, because my attitudes toward the act are colored by my political inclinations–and vice versa. So, again in the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that I used to be a Republican but am now a Democrat, largely because of the Republican Party’s extreme right turn in recent years.

“ And I am profoundly opposed to just about everything the Bush regime is doing, both domestically and internationally–and, I might add, militarily.”

Burr teaches political science and constitutional law at HPU. He commuted from Washington in 2002, at the request of Dr. Jean Rellahan, then dean of International Studies. He moved to Hawai‘i in 2004 and began to teach more regularly here.
