Men’s basketball coach: 20 years
experience
He’s come a long way from Maryville, Missouri,
but men’s basketball Head Coach Darren Vorderbruegge
is glad to have made the journey. Vorderbruegge comes to HPU
with 20 years of coaching experience and will begin his first
year as a head coach in the Division II level as well as working
as an assistant athletics director. [More]

Women’s coach takes on basketball
and diapers
“I have known since about sixth grade
that I wanted to coach college basketball,” said HPU

Women challenged
HPU’s first-ever women’s basketball
team spent most of the past week in California, honing its
skills against several West Coast schools. Although the results
have been disappointing, the women have played hard during

Men cool Carleton in first home game
The HPU men’s basketball team followed
up on its Nov. 17 season-opening win against Cal State Stanislaus
79-75, to take its first home game of the season against
Carleton College (0-2), 79-76, in overtime at the Neal Blaisdell

Athletic director resigns

On Nov. 19 Jill Ward unexpectedly announced
her resignation as HPU’s athletic director. Ward declared
her resignation after learning that her husband had received
orders from the Navy transferring him to Japan.
“
I have appreciated the opportunity to be Athletics director
in that I was exposed to so many wonderful students, coaches,
and people here at HPU,” Ward said of her tenure at
HPU. She was named interim Athletics director in May 2005,
and her title became official as of Sept. 1, 2005.
Starting Dec. 1, Darren Vorderbruegge, the head men’s
basketball coach and assistant athletic director will take
over as interim athletic director.
