Chaplain's Corner

Successful students are those who can keep a balance in their lives in the midst of jam-packed schedules. Four important areas of life need lots of TLC (tender loving care): our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Too much time devoted to one area to the neglect of the others can build up stress and unbalance us.

Obviously, the classroom challenges us to grow mentally. Research papers and exams allow us to discover more about ourselves and the world; they stretch our boundaries of understanding and knowledge. Good time management allows us to complete tasks efficiently, which adds to our self-confidence and sense of competency.

We nurture our emotional side through developing relationships and participating in co-curricular activities. These provide opportunities to recharge our mental batteries and make us more efficient at all tasks.

Physical exercise releases chemicals in the brain called endorphins, the best medicine we can take for clearing the mind and feeling in control.

Nurturing our spiritual side, through communal worship or in solitary prayer, connects us to another source of strength, direction, and purpose. One opportunity is our Wednesday chapel service, noon—12:30 p.m. in Warmer Auditorium. All are invited!

Enjoy spring break: it, too, helps restore our balance.
