HPU President Chatt G. Wright recently announced the appointment effective April 1 of Kenneth T. Uemura as the University’s vice president and chief financial officer.

Uemura comes to HPU from Pomare, Ltd., which is better known in Hawai‘i as the popular apparel store, Hilo Hattie. He was CFO, treasurer, and corporate secretary.

“ I am happy to welcome this established business and community leader to our University,” Wright said. “Kenneth Uemura offers many years of leadership experience in some of Hawai‘i’s most outstanding companies, and I feel confident he will be able to help lead our institution as we continue to grow.”

Uemura, who joined Hilo Hattie in 2001, led the company’s efforts to streamline and modernize its financial operations. He brings to HPU more than 35 years of professional experience as a former senior vice president and controller for C. Brewer & Co., Ltd. and as CEO for Jas. W. Glover Holding Co.

Uemura, a CPA, also was treasurer and controller for the Persis Corporation, and senior audit manager at Deloitte & Touche, LLP.

“I am very excited to be joining Hawai‘i Pacific University,” Uemura said, “and want to thank HPU President Chatt Wright for this wonderful opportunity. I am particularly thankful to be able to succeed my dear friend Lloyd Fujie and to continue the work that he started here,” Uemura added.
Uemura replaces Lloyd Fujie, who passed away on Dec. 28, 2006.

Uemura has established a long record of commitment to community service. He serves on the finance and investment committee for Aloha United Way, is a director with Financial Executives International and the ‘Iolani Swim Club, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
