Agrusa posts paper at UN and closes Asia conference
It’s been a great summer for HPU’s
Dr. Jerry Agrusa. The Travel Industry Management (TIM) professor
had a paper he’d written, with HPU International Admissions
Director Gui Albieri, posted on the United Nations’ UNESCO
Web site, and he gave the closing address at the fifth Asia
Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and International Education
(CHRIE) and 13th Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) joint
conference, in May, in Beijing. [More]

350
graduate at summer commencement
As Kalamalama goes to the printer, HPU conferred
associate, baccalaureate, and master degrees on nearly 350
students at its 67th commencement ceremony, August 16, at
the Neal Blaisdell Center. For the first time, HPU’s
Masters of Education in Secondary Education and Masters of
Social Work programs confered degrees on 12 and 18 students
respectively, the first graduating classes for these programs.
And in another first for an HPU program, MSN graduate Michelle
Johnston was the first to earn the Nurse Educator Certificate. [More]

Aloha from President Wright |
This is a special edition
of Kalamalama, because it’s my opportunity to welcome
our new students to their first semester at HPU and our continuing
students back for another academic year. Beginning a new semester
can be both exciting and challenging. One challenge you might
face is connecting with people outside the classroom. You’ve
already taken one important step in meeting this challenge:
you’re reading the student newspaper. But to make sure
you have many chances to meet students, staff, and faculty,
we’ve also put together a number of events coming up
in the fall semester. I’d like to tell you about some
of the highlights. [More]
