by Jessica S. McDunn, University Relations

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s College of Business is expanding – opening the new HPU Entrepreneurship Center (HEC).

HPU’s Entrepreneurship Center has a three-fold mission: focus on promoting entrepreneurial ventures by HPU students and community members through integration of entrepreneurship education, outreach, and applied research. The establishment of the HEC aims to strengthen HPU’s academic business program and fortify relationships among community members and HPU alumni with HPU faculty and students.

Dr. Bee-Leng Chua is executive director of HPU’s new Entrepreneurship Center at the College of Business Administration. She comes to HPU with a great deal of experience in entrepreneurship education and research, having founded the Center for Entrepreneurship at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is also associate professor in management and teaches in HPU’s MBA program.
Chua plans to execute a number of outreach projects to strengthen and promote HPU relationships with alumni and the community, including quarterly venture roundtables, annual trade shows, and seminars by entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, entrepreneurial support professionals, and government representatives.

During Chua’s 18 years at The Chinese University, she held positions of associate professor of Management, director of industry development at the Department of Management, and associate director of the MBA programs.

Chua said she looks forward to building community links in Hawai‘i as she did in Hong Kong. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and an M.A. and Ph.D. at Ohio University.
