Dr. Martha Sykes was promoted to the position of assistant vice president for Research and Grants Administration effective Oct. 1.

In her new position, Sykes will promote HPU’s mission of increasing the number of faculty members and administrators receiving external funding. She will support HPU Vice President for Research Dr. Alissa Arp with active grant writing and proposal submission and coordination of the key services of pre- and post-award administration. Sykes will promote grant opportunities and coordinate HPU’s proposal development process.

Sykes joined HPU in 1998 as associate professor of Geology and Environmental Science and has held the titles of Physical Science chair and assistant dean of the College of Natural Science.

Sykes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Science degree and doctorate in geology from Arizona State University.
