It was the perfect ending to the perfect season. Literally. The HPU men’s cross country team maintained an undefeated regular season record and continued their winning streak into the Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 27. The 8K course was held at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, Calif.

The Sea Warriors edged past host Notre Dame de Namur University by two points (45) to claim the 2007 title. The Argos placed second with 47 points, followed by defending PacWest champion Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i with 57. University of Hawai‘i-Hilo (67) and Chaminade (135) trailed in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Out of 40 runners, HPU’s Brandon Laan finished in second place, 28 seconds behind BYUH’s Golden Harper (26:23). Esben Dalgaard, Jens Munk-Nielsen, and Kevin Enriques had career performances, placing in third, seventh, and 14th, securing the victory. Vaughn Harber placed 19th for the Sea Warriors, respectively. Laan, Dalgaard, and Munk-Nielsen garnered first-team all-PacWest honors, while Enriques was named to the second team.

According to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, HPU is ranked seventh in the West Region heading into the NCAA Division II West Region Championships. The championships were held on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Boise, Idaho.

The HPU women’s cross country team placed third in the PacWest Championships with 49 points. Defending champion UH-Hilo continued their reign as champs, beating out BYUH by 13 points. HPU’s Elin Soto-Thompson and Emma Palmer placed in fifth and sixth, receiving first-team all-PacWest honors. Jennifer Torres and Quinn Horochuck were named to the second team.
