Hannemann to address 71st Commencement Ceremony

Recently re-elected Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will address graduates at Hawai‘i Pacific University’s 71st Commencement Ceremony to be held January 14. Nearly 500 students are anticipated to graduate, and about 5,000 attendees are expected at the winter ceremony, according to University Relations specialist Crystale Lopez.[More].

New bookstore opens with poetry show

The Bernie O Poetry Show was one of the attractions during opening week at the new HPU Bookstore at 1132 Bishop Street. On Oct. 28 and 30, faculty author Bernard Ostrowski signed copies of his books, A Bernie O. Poetry Show, Volume 1 and 6 and his CD, Jazz From Hawai‘i.

HPU shares Thanksgiving meal

Courtland Milloy, a reporter for The Washington Post, once said of Thanksgiving that “Nothing purchased can come close to the renewed sense of gratitude for having friends and family present.” But when you live in Hawai‘i, at least 3,000 miles, and probably more, from home, family, and friends, a sense of gratitude is harder to come by, especially over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The mission of Hawai‘i Pacific University is to help prepare students to live, work, and learn as active members of a global society. HPU’s College of International Studies is a good example of how HPU is an important global solution provider. The College recently partnered with the Career Services Center to organize a professional development workshop about jobs and internship opportunities in international affairs. The workshop brought two recent alumni back to campus to share tips and strategies and to describe their transition from student to working professional.

My grandfather came to this country with all of his worldly possessions in one suitcase. He didn’t know the language. His money was meager. What he did have, you couldn’t see: a deep faith in a loving God and a certain hope for a better life ahead.
