Getting off to a good start is an important part
of every semester and I hope you are already in the groove of
making good decisions about using your time, learning about all
the co-curricular opportunities available that add flavor to
a university experience, and keeping in touch with the important
people in your life both near and far. Keeping a good balance
in our daily routine goes a long way in insuring academic success.
Sometimes pressures do add up and I want you to know there are
many University resources available to face the challenges. When
in need of a spiritual lift why not stop by and visit our weekly
nondenominational chapel service at Warmer Auditorium every Wednesday
at Noon until 12:30 P.M? This is the happening place each week
and you are welcome to find some food for the soul.
Finances short and need food? There is an HPU Food Bank that
is accessable through my office in MP #438. If you or anyone
you know in the HPU community find yourself temporarily out of
food with nowhere to turn, this is for you. No one will go hungry.
A thank you to our student organizations that help make this
possible!
Sometimes seemingly small things can throw us off balance and “out
of sorts” emotionally and spiritually. Situations like
homesickness, problems with roommates, and concern for the future
are examples that can make us feel stuck--like we’re spinning
our wheels. Just having someone to talk to can make a big difference
in finding our balance. My office (544-9594) and the HPU counseling
office are always available. Come on by!
Taking care of ourselves physically, emotionally, spiritually,
mentally, socially, and academically can help set the stage for
a successful semester. Get involved and have a great time! God’s
blessings!
