It is interesting to me how many folks wander
around with their ears dialed in to headsets, ear phones, or
blue teeth. I always wonder what kind of music they are listening
to, or who they are talking to. If we have something stuck in
our ear, we are never alone, and in some small way we are connected
to something of value. Being “connected” is important
our life and culture.
Our connections give meaning to our lives. The support of family
and friends means much to us when we undergo difficult times
and feel the pressure of deadlines. Knowing we are not alone
can boost us up and give us a sense of renewed strength. We nurture
these connections by sharing ourselves in return to keep them
vital.
It is also important to be connected to the source of our spiritual
life and being. Our relationship with God also needs to be tended
to and given attention. Our campus offers many ways to express
our belief in God, and in every case our spiritual connection
provides great strength, comfort and direction when everything
else seems to be falling apart.
When the beeper goes off, we give time to the important people
in our lives. So, I hope, do we also answer the “beeper” of
a living God who wants to be part of our lives. This, too, is
time well spent!
One good way to stay connected is to visit our weekly Chapel
service, every Wednesday, noon to 12:30 p.m. at Warmer Auditorium.
You just might hear a voice of great importance!
