Dr. Randy M. Caine was appointed the new dean of Hawai‘i Pacific University’s School of Nursing.
“ Dr. Caine will lead our nursing programs in new opportunities and into new and more effective approaches to nursing education,” said President Wright.

With over 24 years of experience in nursing education and administration at the university level, Dr Caine brings to HPU a record of excellence in teaching, mentoring, administration, and scholarly activities, including research and publication in the field of cancer and nurse practitioner participation in end-of-life decision making. Her approach to nursing education is based on personal philosophies of credibility, mentoring, and caring.

“ These philosophies,” she said, “have guided me both personally and professionally in my role as an academician, nurse professional, and human being.”

Dr. Caine comes from the California State University Los Angeles, where she held the faculty position of professor of Nursing, and served in the administrative post of director of Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate programs in Nursing since 2007. She has extensive experience in nursing education, having served for many years as director of nurse practitioner programs. As a professor and administrator in nursing education at the university level, Dr. Caine has a great deal of experience with curriculum and course design, development, and review-evaluation of nurse practitioner courses as well as content and delivery of graduate programs in nursing, including distance education. She also brings to HPU professional experience and leadership in the accreditation of the Nurse Practitioner programs for the California Board of Registered Nursing and the first accreditation of the Nurse Practitioner programs through the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE).
Dr. Caine holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami School of Nursing, a Master of Science in Medical-Surgical Nursing and Education from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and a Doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University with a specialization in institutional management and educational administration. She has held faculty positions at Hunter College-Bellevue School of Nursing, UCLA, Pepperdine University, and most recently the California State University Los Angeles. She holds national board certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health.

The current interim dean, Dr. Patricia Lange-Otsuka, will return to the position of associate dean of the School of Nursing.
