Dr. Randy M. Caine was appointed the new dean
of Hawai‘i Pacific University’s School of Nursing.
“
Dr. Caine will lead our nursing programs in new opportunities
and into new and more effective approaches to nursing education,” said
President Wright.
With over 24 years of experience in nursing education and administration
at the university level, Dr Caine brings to HPU a record of excellence
in teaching, mentoring, administration, and scholarly activities,
including research and publication in the field of cancer and
nurse practitioner participation in end-of-life decision making.
Her approach to nursing education is based on personal philosophies
of credibility, mentoring, and caring.
“
These philosophies,” she said, “have guided me both
personally and professionally in my role as an academician, nurse
professional, and human being.”
Dr. Caine comes from the California State University Los Angeles,
where she held the faculty position of professor of Nursing,
and served in the administrative post of director of Graduate
and Post-Baccalaureate programs in Nursing since 2007. She has
extensive experience in nursing education, having served for
many years as director of nurse practitioner programs. As a professor
and administrator in nursing education at the university level,
Dr. Caine has a great deal of experience with curriculum and
course design, development, and review-evaluation of nurse practitioner
courses as well as content and delivery of graduate programs
in nursing, including distance education. She also brings to
HPU professional experience and leadership in the accreditation
of the Nurse Practitioner programs for the California Board of
Registered Nursing and the first accreditation of the Nurse Practitioner
programs through the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education
(CCNE).
Dr. Caine holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University
of Miami School of Nursing, a Master of Science in Medical-Surgical
Nursing and Education from Hunter College of the City University
of New York, and a Doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University
with a specialization in institutional management and educational
administration. She has held faculty positions at Hunter College-Bellevue
School of Nursing, UCLA, Pepperdine University, and most recently
the California State University Los Angeles. She holds national
board certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and as a Clinical
Nurse Specialist in Adult Health.
The current interim dean, Dr. Patricia Lange-Otsuka, will return
to the position of associate dean of the School of Nursing.
